Jane Durlacher is a collage artist based in Melbourne. Her practice explores themes of fragmentation, ambiguity, & emotional intimacy through a modern minimalist lens. Working exclusively with analog techniques, Jane creates small-format collages using found imagery sourced from magazines & print ephemera.
Her process is intuitive—cutting, arranging, & layering fragments by hand to form compositions that hover between abstraction & recognition. Human figures are in parts, gestures unfinished, allowing space for ambiguity & emotional interpretation. Jane’s approach is informed by her background in graphic design & her sensitivity to composition, texture, & form.
The resulting works are compact & sculptural, marked by restraint & precision. Each piece is standalone in impact, yet visually connected to a larger body of work through tone and intent. Her collages have been used in album artwork, & included in independent collage publications.
Jane’s practice is grounded in material play, visual storytelling, & the quiet charge of reassembly. It is an ongoing exploration of the emotional weight carried in fragments—personal, cultural, & visual—& the potential for beauty & acceptance in the unresolved.
While each A5 collage stands alone with its own narrative impact, they are also designed to be displayed in larger grids— of 2 rows x 3 columns. This collective arrangement amplifies the overall emotional resonance & creates an extended meditation on connection.
